Location: Online (Zoom), time listed is EDT
In this virtual event, a panel of drafting team members from Working Group 6 on International Electronic Information Management, Discovery, and Disclosure (WG6) will lead a dialogue on their Draft Guidelines on Cross-Border Information Governance (“Draft Guidelines”).
The virtual event is free and open to all Working Group Series (WGS) members, though advance registration is required.
The Draft Guidelines are intended to provide guidance to attendees of this event and others, including corporate stakeholders, the bench, and the bar, on myriad decisions and activities an organization must consider when implementing a cross-border information governance program. The dialogue will examine how the drafting team is attempting to address how stakeholders can optimize the balance between the competing demands of ongoing retention of information to meet current and critical business, legal, and regulatory demands, on the one hand, and on the other hand, the timely disposition of aged or sensitive information—including disposing of personal data to effectuate recognized data protection principles of data minimization and storage limits and fulfill legitimate data subject access requests. This session is intended for attendees to both learn from and guide the drafting team in its efforts to develop leading legal and regulatory guidance vis-à-vis cross-border information governance in the form of a completed draft at the forthcoming 2025 WG6 Annual Meeting.
Though the session will be virtual, the intent is for it to as closely as possible replicate a session focused on draft work product at an in-person WG6 annual or midyear meeting. Therefore, comments on the Draft Guidelines – whether verbally or through the chat feature in the Zoom application – will be strongly encouraged during the event. We will also welcome written member comment for a period following the event.
